The Art of Accessing The Endocannabinoid System – Without Supplements

by Neil Mumby / 17 December 2018 / Published in CBD Explained
Accessing The Endocannabinoid System

Today the CBD Gurus will be teaching you how to tune the endocannabinoid system, without taking a single supplement.

It’s crazy, we know. Our staff makes a living providing the finest CBD to our loyal customers. Why would we tell you how to access the many CBD benefits without making a purchase?

Because we want you to get the most out of your holistic lifestyle. And besides, implementing these techniques in your daily life can even boost the effects of your CBD regimen! In order to truly maximize the benefits of hemp therapy, we recommend combining the strategies below with the knowledge contained in our CBD Beginner’s Guide.

CBD oil, and other cannabidiol products, all relate to the endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a network of receptors and neurotransmitters that directly relate to the immune, nervous, vanilloid pain, hormonal, digestive, muscular, and skeletal systems of the body. That’s the complete package.

So, how does one even begin to approach healing or maximizing a system like this?

With the basics.

Diet

One of the first ways to keep your ECS healthy is to include omega fatty acids in your meals and snacks. Omega fats are the precursors to the endocannabinoids that are produced by the human body. For years dietary experts have been extolling the benefits of omega fatty acids. Now, we have a clear understanding of how they assist us. By increasing the levels of our endocannabinoids, omegas help the ECS function at a higher level. This means that a handful of walnuts a day can help tremendously on the journey to optimal health.

Of course, you could take products like fish oil to boost your omega intake. But, we promised you access to the ECS without any supplements. Another option is to enjoy the foods provided by hemp. Both hemp seed oil and hemp hearts are incredible sources of these fatty acids. Other healthy sources include certain nuts, avocados, and chia seeds.

Beyond the omega fatty acids, there are a wide variety of foods that help tone the ECS. For example, you can spice things up with true cinnamon, basil, and oregano – all of which contain a terpene compound called beta-caryophyllene. This compound activates CB2 receptors, one of the two main receptors related to endocannabinoid health. If you have a sweet tooth than chocolate is the way to go. Chocolate contains NAEs, a class of natural lipid molecules, which prevent the breakdown of AEA, a central endocannabinoid known as the bliss molecule. This bliss molecule elevates our mood, strengthens our immune system, and protects our mind.

The science is real, and so are the incredible flavors and healing gifts that nature provides. Take your time and select the foods that appeal to you and prep them in your favorite dishes! It could save you from experiencing the negative symptoms of endocannabinoid deficiency.

Exercise

New research is coming to light that the benefits of movement extend to the ECS. Our internal cannabinoids relate directly to the pain-killing systems of our body which kick in after exercise. Human studies have shown that exercise boosts the circulation of the endocannabinoid AEA, that feel good compound we mentioned above.

If that wasn’t enough to back up the endocannabinoid exercise theory, leading experts are now claiming that the “endorphin hypothesis” is all wrong! This means that the famous runner’s high we experience from exercise might just come from the endocannabinoid system instead of an endorphin release.

It is clear that exercise and the ECS are intimately related. Beyond its connection to the psychoactive effects of physical exertion, it is likely that many of the health benefits of movement are also associated with this increase in endocannabinoid activity. So get out there break a sweat and enjoy that sweet cannabinoid rush.

Mindfulness

Do you really want to boost the CBD effects you know and love? Practice peace.

Yoga, meditation, and breathwork have all been shown to reduce stress. Chronic stress impairs the functioning of the endocannabinoid network by decreasing the levels of its two main chemical signallers, AEA and 2-AG. Encouraging high levels of AEA is a must if you are trying to live life to the fullest! So don’t cut yourself short.

Find practices that bring you peace. Yoga is a double whammy of relaxation, and exercise that flushes the system with AEA. Meditation and breathwork have both been demonstrated to ease mental tension. But, if you’re not into these techniques it’s okay, you can live mindfully in many ways. Volunteering also leads to a long list of health benefits including stress reduction. Reach out, and lift others up. This is a true doorway to a healthy life and a happy ECS.

Wrapping It Up

It’s the holiday season, a time to celebrate. Get yourself ready for the season by lighting up the ECS like a Christmas tree. Swap out those chestnuts for omega rich walnuts. Find your inner glow, not just from holiday music, but from a good yoga practice. Once you’re done, enjoy a warm cup of AEA boosting hot chocolate (real cocoa only) and find a little service that needs to be done. Around the holidays, you can always locate a soup kitchen in need of help or a gift collection agency that could use your support.

Our only wish at CBD Guru is that we can spread a little bit of holiday hemp! Feel free to check out our FAQ and educational content to see if there is any way we can help brighten your cheer.
