CBG VS CBD Oil: Benefits, Synergy, And More

CBD has quickly become a household product around the world. Everyone from grandmothers to grandchildren are benefiting from the tremendous health impacts of cannabidiol.

But what about the many other cannabinoid compounds that are available for therapeutic use?

While CBD has received all the attention, in reality, there are over 400 novel compounds found within hemp. Of these 400, between 60 and 100 of them are cannabinoids, depending on who you ask.

Scientists are rigorously testing these cannabinoid compounds to discover exactly what role they can play in human health. So far, there are a few of these cannabinoids that truly shine.
Both CBD, cannabidiol, and CBG, cannabigerol, fall into this exemplary category, with science readily able to identify their therapeutic value.

CBG Medical Applications

There are many differences between CBD and CBG but let’s start with their similarities. Neither CBD or CBG create a psychoactive effect. This means that they will never induce a high or altered state. They do, however, interact with the human endocannabinoid system (ECS) which modulates mood, happiness, and health. So while you may not be flying high, accessing the ECS can help bring mental clarity, positive mood, and steady energy levels.

These compounds share many similar health benefits, but they achieve these benefits in unique ways. When they are taken together, they can create a robust treatment method for the human body and mind.

Let’s take a look at how CBG can help you, and compare these benefits to CBD.

CBG vs CBD:

1. Neuroprotection

CBG has been shown to improve the gene expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factors (BDNFs). Elevated expression of BDNFs displays a neuroprotective effect.

CBD is known to elevate levels of circulating AEA, a beneficial neurotransmitter. AEA helps to elicit neuroprotection by modulating CB1 receptors. Both AEA and CB1 are crucial to the functioning of the endocannabinoid system. Dietary supplementation directly helps this system run more efficiently.

2. Antioxidant Properties

CBG helps to raise oxidative defense mechanisms, making it a potent antioxidant. Cannabigerol helps to inhibit the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines and prostaglandin E2 both of which are connected to the process of oxidative damage.

CBD is also a well known antioxidant. Although CBD does work against the increase of inflammatory cytokines, it also combats the oxidative injuring effects of 3-nitropropionic acid (3NP), which is found in a variety of foods.

3. Anti-Inflammatory Activity

As mentioned above, both CBD and CBG influence the endocannabinoid network. The ECS is then able to handle many different aspects of inflammation. Most notable is the reduction in pro-inflammatory cytokines, which can be implicated in oxidative stress and mood instability as well as the inflammatory issues.

4. Anti-Cancer Properties

CBG has been investigated for its ability to fight cancer. We will never claim that our products can cure cancer, but it is essential to share the research that has been conducted. CBG seems to have many relevant properties, one of them, is its ability to stimulate ROS production. ROS, or reactive oxygen species, are chemicals that are used in anti-cancer therapy.

CBD may also be of interest. As stated above, CBD increases levels of the critical neurochemical AEA. AEA creates activity at both CB1 and CB2 receptor sites. CB1 and CB2 activity have been shown to inhibit tumor growth in specific scenarios.

It is worth noting that at CBD Guru, we would never condone or encourage treating severe disorders alone, let alone with only our dietary supplements. Always seek medical assistance in the treatment of disease.

5. Pain Reduction

CBG is also a powerful lipoxygenase inhibitor. Lipoxygenase inhibitors are essential factors in the reduction of both pain and inflammation. The inhibitory activity that CBG displays is stronger than either THC or CBD.

CBD also helps in these stressful signaling processes. CBD ultimately leads to CB1 receptor activity. CB1 activation can prevent the release of neurotransmitters that would otherwise encourage the sensation of pain.

The Synergy Between CBD and CBG Products

By looking at the details above, it is clear that CBD and CBG can work together to create positive impacts on both the mind and body. In fact, they take different approaches to address similar issues within the human system. This means that using both together will create a more effective treatment than taking each one individually.

In addition to the teamwork that these compounds show they also display unique benefits. CBD will effectively lead to CB1 and CB2 activation. CB1/2 activities can help stabilize mood and modulate sleep. CBG exhibits appetite stimulation properties, where CBD does not. These unique properties show that when taken together, you can benefit from a broader range of benefits, not just a more robust set of treatments for the same issues.

Remember that these compounds occur naturally within the same plant, hemp. Hemp has been used safely for over 5000 years. The combination of CBD and CBG is natural and healthy.
