How Do I Measure My CBD Tincture Dosage?

by Neil Mumby / 20 March 2019 / Published in CBD Explained

How Do I Measure My CBD Tincture Dosage? If you’re new to CBD products, you’re in the right place, we’ve got you covered.

At CBD Guru, we want to help make your transition to CBD supplements smooth and straightforward. That’s why we provide our in-depth beginner’s guide and a wealth of educational resources to help you learn the essential facts about cannabidiol.

Today, we’ve decided to discuss the most critical aspect of any supplemental regimen: dosing.

Dosing by Measuring CBD Tincture Dosage

The first step on the road to dosing with your CBD tincture is to determine the overall CBD content of your bottle. Be on the lookout for labeling that clearly states “X mg of CBD” or “X mg of broad-spectrum CBD.” At times, distributors will simply list the mg weight of the total oil in the bottle. This is misleading and often reads as “1000mg of hemp oil,” or a similar statement. These products are often inactive and are used simply to make money off of unsuspecting buyers. To avoid any scams, read our post on the information you need to know before making a CBD purchase.

Once you know that your product is authentic, and contains a total quantity of CBD the next step is to check the labeling to find out how much CBD is in each milliliter of your hemp CBD oil. The product should be clearly labeled for total milligrams per bottle, and milligrams per milliliter.

Typically, 20 drops of liquid will create 1 ml. If you want to be exact, which we recommend, then invest in a few milliliter syringes. These oral syringes are cheap, can be purchased online or in pharmacies, and can give you precise measurements. This way you know exactly how much is contained in each CBD oil dosage you take. If you use a 1 ml syringe, it is also recommended to compare the dropper on your bottle to the 1 ml syringe. Being able to estimate 1 ml in the dropper on your bottle will save you time when you are in a rush.

Adjusting Your CBD Dosage

As a quick reminder, always start with low CBD dosages. You never know how this all-natural compound will work with your unique chemistry. There is no toxicity associated with the CBD compound, but it is advisable to find the lowest dose that works for you to ensure that you are not wasting valuable product.

To start low, and then build up, you will have to know how to adjust your dose quickly. This is easy once you know how many milligrams of CBD are in a milliliter of your CBD oil. If you wish to take less than the suggested dose in 1 milliliter, just cut the amount in half and take 0.5mg. If you want to take more, add an additional 0.5mg for a total of 1.5mg. With milliliter syringes on hand, this process is straightforward. Alternatively, you can use the estimate of 20 drops per milliliter as a starting point, and add or remove drops.

Assuming Your Oil Contains 20mg of CBD per ml:

  • 0.5ml – 10mg CBD
  • 1ml – 20mg CBD
  • 1.5ml – 30mg CBD
  • 2ml – 40mg CBD

    Or
  • 10 drops – 10mg CBD
  • 20 drops – 20mg CBD
  • 30 drops – 30mg CBD
  • 40 drops – 40mg CBD

Feel free to adjust your dose to segments of 0.25ml, or 5 drops, if this gets you closer to your target dosage.

Remember that each bottle contains a different amount of total CBD and CBD per milliliter! Do not assume that your container has 20mg of CBD per ml. Always check the label of a new bottle before taking your dose. The more precise you can be, the more you learn about how your unique physiology relates to the CBD compound. Self-discovery is an essential part of the path to wellness, so take the time to experiment and learn how to work with this organic hemp product effectively.

Discovering Your Ideal Dose

You should always start with a micro or standard dose of CBD. You will need to factor in your body weight to determine the best starting dose. Please take a look at our beginner’s guide for more guidance on this topic.

Each dose of CBD oil should be taken roughly six hours apart. Once you have measured your dose, place the oil under your tongue and hold for about a minute, then swallow. The taste is typically quite earthy, so having a glass of water to use as a chaser can be helpful for individuals who are sensitive to the taste.
Keep in mind that dosing with other styles of products will be a little different. Edibles and capsules should be clearly labelled indicating how much CBD is in each treat or tablet. This makes dosing particularly easy with these products. Vaping products could be a little more difficult to dose in exact proportions, but they impact your system faster than other methods so it is easy to observe the effects and determine if you would like to take another draw.
